Paint Remover

Have you ever been plagued by using expensive paint brushes just to have them build up with dried paint.  Well, we have a great fix for that.  See the following formula for unbelievable results using ordinary household chemicals.

paint brush formulation
  • Find some Lestoil® cleaner found at most grocery stores.
  • Find a plastic container
  • Fill the plastic container with hot water and add about 2 ounces of Lestoil®
  • Insert paint brush, careful not to place in container completely vertical.  This will bend the brush tip.  I lean it off to the side.
  • Let stand overnight.
  • Remove and rinse with warm water.  I use a dish brush to remove any paint stuck between the bristles.  Insure that you brush one way- away from the handle.
  • Let dry
  • Your brush is ready for more painting.
  • Works on old brushes, new brushes and more.

Neat (straight) Lestoil® works well on paint on the floor.  Just cover paint spot on floor and cover with handi-wrap.  check later on and you should be able to remove paint using your fingernail.

Boat Algae Remover

Some of the best non-commercial cleaners are based on vinegar. Its easily obtainable and can be found at most grocery stores. Get a gallon of white vinegar and you will find uses for it.  Vinegar has been know for cleaning algae, molds, and many other stains.

algae remover formulation
  • CAUTION:  USE APPROPRIATE SAFETY EQUIPMENT PRIOR TRYING THIS ONE
  • pour about 2-3 ounces of white vinegar into a plastic container.
  • Add about 24 ounces of warm water
  • Find a nylon scrubbing brush and wet the the bristles in vinegar solution
  • Brush algae area until clean
  • Some people add toilet bowl cleaner to this mixture to increase strength, I wouldn't recommend this without goggles, gloves and other needed PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Don't let the rinse water from this reach public waters...

Removing mold stains from your roof

Removing those black or brown mold stains from your roof is easy. Just nail on a strip (1" to 4" wide) galvanized steel above the areas where the stains are and near the ridge..

The zinc in the galvanized steel will leach off the steel and run down the roof and onto the stains.  The zinc will kill the mold and the stains will disappear.

Rust Remover #1

grinder

Grinding is one of the most applied method of rust removal. It is also the most labor intensive. Grinding also generates a ton of rust dust that may be breathed in and gets into your eyes.

Grinding operations use abrasive wheels/pads and also remove base metal.  intricate designs and  many corners are very difficult to remove rust from, sometimes requiring a Dremel like tool or hand sanding.

You will also need to use safety glasses, particulate goggles and possibly respirators.  Also, watch out for potential  fires.

Rust Remover #2

sander

Sanding is another similar process as grinding. What a pain...

There has to be a better way than using a sander to remove rust?

Chill your beer or wine in about 2 minutes or less...

chilled wine

Chilling your beer or wine after you purchase warm bottle has been a problem ever since the invention of the tail gate. We have a solution for you now and its simple.

All you need is some ice and salt. Rock or solar salt works the best.

Place your beers or wine bottle into a bucket or other convenient container

Add the ice up to the top of the bottles, adding water will speed up the process

Pour the rock salt onto the ice and mix

Stop adding salt when the bottles start to form frost on them

Your beers will be ultra chilled after this. Do not let them sit in the salt water and ice for long, they will freeze

Rinse off the outsides of the beer or wine prior to opening it up, salt kinda ruins the flavor of beer

You can usually find ice, rock salt and water at most any convenient store. This also works far better than just using ice alone
